Modest Dietary Protein Requirement for Sea Urchin Gonad Production Demonstrated by Feeding Trials with Consideration of Protein Leaching

چکیده

This study is aimed at revealing the dietary protein requirement for gonad production in sea urchin Mesocentrotus nudus, with consideration of leaching from diets during seawater immersion. Feeding trials were performed on M. nudus using two diet types low capacities leaching: starch (STG) containing 0–40% gluten 10%, 5%, and 4% increments (experiments 1–3) alginate (ALG) 5–25% 5% (experiment 4). The content was determined after they immersed 24 h or 72 h. indices urchins fed STG 11.4–19.3% significantly higher than those 7.8% protein. estimated to be 12% based a broken-line regression analysis experiments 1–3. In experiment 4, gonads became larger as increased 4.5% 12.0%, sizes similar ALG 12.0–21.1% value much lower that reported previously (>20%), indicating modest when protein-leaching problem addressed.

Sea urchin feeding fronts

Sea urchin feeding fronts are a striking example of spatial pattern formation in an ecological system. If it is assumed that urchins are asocial, and that they move randomly, then the formation of these dense fronts is an apparent paradox. The key lies in observations that urchins move further in areas where their algal food is less plentiful. This naturally leads to the accumulation of urchins...

Light Requirement for the Carotenoids Production by Mucor hiemalis

Objective Fungi produce many different carotenoids and some are attractive in medical and industrial sources. In this work the ability of Mucor hiemalis (PTCC 5292) to produce carotenoids in media with different nitrogenous and carbon sources and incubation with white, yellow, blue and red lights (15W, 220V, E27) against dark-grown were studied. Materials and Method The microorganism cultiva...
